Mercedes W177 A45 C118 CLA45

Performance increase: 15-18 HP, 12-16 foot-pounds

Compatibility: W177 A45 and A45S, C118 CLA45 and CLA45S: M139 engine

The Mercedes M139 Eventuri system uses our patented carbon fiber housing that provides an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbo. Not just another conical filter with a heat shield, but a design unique that recalls the Venturi effect and maintains laminar flow conditions to reduce drag on the turbo.

The Mercedes M139 intake for the A45 and CLA45 has been developed to allow the turbo a smoother path from which to draw airflow. By redesigning the system to allow a much more direct path, the turbo is able to generate boost with less resistance and therefore reach the target boost pressure earlier in the rpm range. This intake system has been developed to deliver the highest possible flow rate whilst maintaining the lowest possible intake temperatures to produce a net performance gain. The de-restricted flow path also allows the turbo spool to be heard more clearly, adding to the dynamics of the overall driving experience.

Dyno Test

Our M139 intake has been independently tested by specialist Mercedes tuner in the UK, MSL Performance. Several tests were carried out with the OEM airbox to get a repeatable result and then again with the Eventuri intake. The tests were carried out on the same day back to back. The results show an increase in torque and power across the entire rpm range, not just at the top end, which is why the car feels more responsive and is able to accelerate through the gears quicker.

The Eventuri A45/CLA45 intake system is made up of a series of components designed to perform a specific purpose and manufactured to the highest standards. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fiber with no fiberglass, which means we can achieve a smooth internal surface to maintain smoother airflow. Here are the details for each component and the design ethic behind them:

Each intake system consists of:

  • Patented carbon fiber venturi filter housing
  • High-flow dry cone filter on measure
  • Carbon Fiber Inlet Duct
  • Laser Cut Stainless Steel Brackets
  • Laser Cut Stainless Steel ECU Relocation Mount

Venturi Filter Housing Assembly patented

The M139 filter housing consists of a custom-built high-flow filter, an aluminum pod and the carbon pod itself. The carbon pod surrounds the reverse-mounted filter and gently shapes the airflow to the intake tubes. This gentle reduction in cross-sectional area is reminiscent of the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates while maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity chimney: Below is a diagram showing how our patented design compares to a regular intake system. More details can be found on the Technology page.

Carbon fiber intake duct

The duct directs ambient air from the trim panel area to the filter housing. It fits inside the OEM duct system and transitions smoothly into the circular shape of the filter housing. To ensure a good seal against engine bay heat, it also has a flexible rubber lip around the opening that presses against the filter housings creating the desired seal but allowing the housing to move with the engine. The side of the duct has some cutouts to allow air movement around where the ECU has been repositioned to aid heat saturation. The duct has been designed to have the maximum internal volume possible within the given geometry of the engine bay. This ensures that the filter housing is able to draw with the minimum restriction.

Laser-cut control unit repositioning bracket

To relocate the ECU we have designed a bracket that is laser cut from stainless steel for strength and rigidity. The ECU mounts securely into this bracket which is then bolted to the chassis of the car using the stock locating threads used for the OEM airbox bracket. Additionally there is another bracket that supports the filter housing and finally a piece that covers the top of the ECU to protect the wiring harnesses.
