The aspiration The C8 Z06 Eventuri represents a significant advancement in intake design, setting a new standard for performance and innovation within this platform. By rethinking the intake without the limitations of the OEM trunk panel, we created a solution that not only maximizes the size of the intake, but also showcases the carbon intake with a clear polycarbonate panel when the trunk is open.< /span>
The OEM Z06 airbox, derived from the LT3 Stingray airbox, brings with it the limitations inherent in its design, including its constrained shape and volume due to space limitations behind the OEM trunk panel. Consequently, these limitations become more pronounced when applied to the more powerful LT6 engine.
Our solution addresses these constraints by increasing overall volume in an organically shaped system and utilizing our patented venturi housing concept to provide a more efficient, less restrictive airflow path. By doing so, we unleash a significant increase in horsepower and torque across the entire rpm range, with a transformative improvement in mid-range performance.
DYNAMOMETER TESTING
Our C8 Z06 intake was developed in collaboration with Corvette specialists, Paragon Performance in Iowa, who have performed performance testing and data logging for every prototype we have produced. All dynamometer testing was done in their controlled dynamometer cell facility where ambient temperatures were held constant and fuel trim values were recorded. All other variables were kept to a minimum for a reliable, repeatable result. A completely stock Z06 was tested with engine temperatures at a stabilized value and then the car was left on the dynamometer while the intake was installed. After installation, the car was allowed to reach the same temperatures and then spun on the dyno several times for a consistent result.
As you can see, there is a significant gain throughout the rpm range and especially in the mid-range between 3500-5500 rpm, where the intake released gains of up to 42whp and 44ft-lb or torque. This is immediately noticeable on the road, where the Z06 feels much more responsive and the "flat spot" that owners notice on the stock car completely disappears. Importantly, it is the total gain across the entire rpm range that our intake system delivers that transforms the Z06's driving experience.
DEVELOPMENT
The The end result, as seen above, was the culmination of an iterative process where prototypes were tested by Paragon Performance and then the design was modified to improve performance gains. The graphs below show the results of each prototype up to the final version.
CFD ANALYSIS
CFD flow analysis was performed on the intake to optimize the shape for smooth flow and therefore reduced drag. The simulation below shows a wide cut plot of velocities through the intake. The streamlines demonstrate how the intake takes the turbulent flow upstream of the filters and shapes the flow to be smooth and linear as it collects and moves through the MAF tube sections to the throttle body. The velocity increases as it moves through the MAF tube but remains laminar and uniform throughout the tube to the engine. This analysis shows the results for one of the prototypes, which was then improved for the final version.
The Eventuri C8 Z06 intake system Corvette is a series of components designed to perform a specific purpose and manufactured to the highest standards. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fiber with no fiberglass, which means we can achieve a smooth internal surface to maintain a smoother airflow. Here are the details for each component and the design ethic behind them:
Each intake system consists of:
FILTER HOUSING PATENTED
The Z06 filter housing is designed with 2 of our patented Venturi pods which merge to create a large volume whilst incorporating 2 MAF tubes which direct flow to each bank of the plenum. It is our most complex housing design to date and the culmination of several months of intensive prototyping, testing and iteration. Internally it consists of 2 custom made high flow filters and aluminium caps, which help direct flow over the filters. The carbon housing wraps around the reverse mounted filters and gently shapes the airflow towards the MAF tubes where the volume is gradually reduced. This gentle reduction in cross-sectional area is reminiscent of the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity stack - below is a diagram to show how our patented design compares to a normal intake system. Further details can be read on the Technology page.
CUSTOM CONE FILTER
The filter we chose for the Z06 system allows for a balance between filtration area and overall filter housing volume. Our initial prototypes used a larger filter, but these extended too far into the housing and interrupted flow to each section of the MAF tube. By using a shorter cone we were able to optimize the housing shape for better flow to the MAF tubes, while still maintaining more than enough filtration area for the required CFM. The filter media is ISO tested to ensure the filtration is up to OEM standards and is also dry. The filter is constructed with our signature flow cones to support the Venturi housing principle.
DUCTED IN CARBON
Ducts direct ambient air from the side vents to the filter housing. To ensure a good seal against engine bay heat, they are fixed to the filter housing at 3 points and use a neoprene gasket for an airtight seal. The ducts have been designed to have the maximum internal volume possible within the given engine bay geometry. This ensures that the filter housing is able to draw with minimal restriction.
TRANSPARENT TRUNK PANEL
Designing the intake to have a large volume with smooth airflow to the engine wasn't possible with the limited space, partly due to the stock trunk panel, so we redesigned it to accommodate our intake. In doing so, we took the opportunity to showcase the carbon fiber and so made the panel from clear polycarbonate. This allows a window to see the intake when the trunk is open, an industry first for this platform.
STIRRUP WORK
We have designed a structure to allow the OEM wiring looms to be secured in place and kept out of sight. The bracket work is laser cut from stainless steel and aluminum.
INLET FLANGES span>
Our custom inlet flanges and hoses connect the intake to the stock cold air supplies on each side. This ensures that engine bay heat is kept out of the suction system.
The complete system assembles to provide truly transformative suction. driving the C8 Z06.
