BMW E46 M3

The E46 M3 intake system is the result of extensive data logging, dynamometer testing and design optimization. Our goal was to develop an intake system for the S54 engine that would work with the stock ECU map and MAF sensor and produce a genuine improvement in the driving experience.

The Eventuri Difference

The E46 M3 Eventuri system utilizes our patent-pending carbon fiber housing that provides an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the MAF tube. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield, but a unique design that harks back to the Venturi effect.

Below is a dynamometer graph showing the Eventuri versus the stock airbox on a standard car with just a rear exhaust and a standard map. As you can see, horsepower and torque are increased across a wide rpm range, not just at peak. On the road, this translates into increased part-throttle and full-throttle response, with the car pulling much more eagerly to redline. The tests were run on the same day consecutively and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency.

Although the Eventuri system does not require a remap, we did see further gains when the E46 M3 was subsequently remapped. The following graph shows another E46 M3 with 3 curves: stock, Eventuri, and then Eventuri with a remap. In this case the car has been remapped by Evolve Automotive.

Components

Each component is designed for a purpose and to a very high standard. Each kit consists of:

    • 100% pre-preg carbon fiber intake housing

    • 100% Pre-Preg Carbon Fiber Air Intake with CNC Machined Aluminum Collar
    • 3x Aluminum Heat Shields
    • High Quality Silicone Joint with BMW Specific Hose Clamps

Carbon Intake Housing Assembly

Made from the highest quality 100% pre-preg carbon fiber, the workmanship of the housing is second to none. This encapsulates the filter and is mated to an anodized aluminum inlet shell to ensure a smooth inlet flow path. The filter itself is a high flow, deep pleated dual cone configuration that is dry to avoid damaging the MAF sensor. Finally, the assembly is then mated to an aluminum heat shield that effectively hides the intake from engine bay heat and captures ambient air that is diverted from the intake. Also note the rubber spacer on the heat shield mount - this is for the headlight module to sit on so it stays at the right height - the little details matter!

Carbon Air Intake

100% pre-preg carbon fiber with a CNC machined collar - the intake air intake forces ambient air directly into the filter opening. This intake simply snaps into place in the right front brake duct and effectively saturates the intake port with cold air. It is designed to take up half the height of the duct to allow airflow to continue through the brake duct. The scoop is so effective that even after a hard drive, the aluminum cap at the intake port will still be cool to the touch!

MAF Pipe

The MAF pipe is CNC machined from aluminum and then anodized. The MAF boss itself is machined from an engineering plastic to minimize heat absorption into the sensor via conduction. We have incorporated a machined recess on one side to allow the OEM rubber gasket from the stock airbox to be used for a tight seal in the stock elbow.

Heat Shields

There are 3 aluminum heat shields. The main shield is part of the intake assembly as above. There is then an extension shield that fits over the main shield and blocks hot air from the radiator. The final shield attaches to the frame under the carbon housing to minimize direct heat absorption from the block. We have used neoprene on the main shield to insulate it for optimum function in keeping incoming air temperatures as low as possible.


These components combine to improve the efficiency of the engine intake. The result: more power, throttle response and sound.
