Info

Suitable for RS3 8Y, left and right hand drive. Raw carbon finish, no clear coat.

Optional turbo flanges available for popular hybrid turbos.

Now introducing our full carbon RS3 turbo inlet elbow for the 8Y version. The elbow is the same as our original one developed for the 8V, but with additional mounting hardware for the new breather system found on the North American 8Y engines. The rest of the world uses the same inlet as our current 8V package.

Performance increase (RS3 8V with hybrid turbo): 14-20hp, 30-35ft-lbs
Flow increase to 24″ H2O: 42% increase over stock (using the standard flange)

We have invested months of intense research and development in the development of an inlet that leaves no room for compromise. VOLUME - FLOW QUALITY - TEMPERATURE were the parameters that we tried to optimize for this inlet.

1) VOLUME: Inlet diameters – Eventuri 103 mm: standard 72 mm. Outlet diameters – Eventuri 74 mm: standard 56.4 mm. Clearly with significantly larger internal diameter dimensions, the Eventuri elbow encapsulates a much larger internal volume that de-limits the flow path to the turbo.

2) FLOW QUALITY: Just having a large internal volume is not a good thing if the flow path does not also allow for smooth airflow to the turbo. By using high temperature pre-preg carbon fiber we were able to achieve a smooth internal surface. In contrast, stock and other aftermarket elbows are all made of die-cast aluminum that ends up with a rough internal surface. This, combined with the smooth curvature of the elbow, results in a flow path that minimizes turbulence.

3) TEMPERATURE: The final criteria was to minimize heat conduction into the airflow. The stock inlet is directly connected to the turbo and therefore conducts heat immediately when the turbo is started. Our system uses a machined flange that connects to the turbo and then a silicone joint with an integrated heat spacer to prevent the carbon elbow from having direct contact with the turbo. This barrier, combined with the low thermal conductivity of the carbon fibre thickness, results in less heat transfer to the airflow.

The Eventuri RS3 8Y turbo inlet is constructed from high temperature pre-preg carbon fibre and comes with a host of other components that are designed to perform a specific purpose and manufactured to the highest standards.

Mounting is available for RHD and LHD vehicles. North American vehicles have a specific kit for the 8Y with a different vent line. The inlet is designed to fit our RS3 8Y intake system.

Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them:

Each inlet system consists of:

  • High Temp Carbon Inlet Elbow - Left & Right Hand Drive Specific
  • CNC Machined Turbo Flanges - Optional Pickups
  • Silicone Joints with Oil Resistant Coating
  • Silicone Breather System & Blanking Plug (USA Only)
  • Marine Grade Stainless Steel Hose Clamps

Flow Bench Testing

We conducted flow tests using a Superflow SF-1020 to measure the maximum flow rate possible at a pressure drop of 28" H2O. Testing was done on the same day under controlled conditions using the same test jig for each elbow. The results show how restrictive the stock elbow is, which we were able to improve from 42% using the stock flange up to 58% in maximum reach possible using the larger GTX flange. As the RHD version requires space for the brake fluid reservoir, we have added a scalloped cutout on the side which reduces the volume of the pipe but still maintains a significant increase in flow over stock with a 52% increase over stock using the GTX flange.

Dynamo Testing

Our carbon elbow has been independently tested by reputable tuners worldwide. The first set of results come from BR Performance Netherlands who tested our system on a TTRS fitted with a TTE700 hybrid turbo. The tests were performed on the same day back to back with the hood closed. They tested the stock airbox against our stage 3 intake with the stock elbow and then added our elbow for comparison.

Dynamometer Results Summary:

  • Stock airbox with modified stock turbo inlet for TTE700 = 576.5 HP
  • Eventi Stage 3 intake with modified stock turbo inlet for TTE700 = 606.5 HP
  • Eventi Stage 3 intake with Eventuri turbo inlet for TTE700 = 620.8 HP

Carbon fiber inlet elbow

Our turbo inlet provides a smooth flow path from the 103mm diameter inlet to the 74mm outlet at the turbo flange. We designed the shape with a continuous curvature and maximised internal volume without negatively impacting airflow. The inlet is finished in raw carbon, so it doesn't have a clear coat, which wouldn't be able to withstand the heat generated by the turbo and exhaust manifold. The carbon construction allows us to keep the internal flow surface smooth, which helps reduce surface friction and in turn allows the airflow to move more easily. We ensure strength and rigidity by maintaining a 2mm wall thickness throughout the part. Finally, for added protection, a heat reflective layer is applied where the pipe passes through the exhaust manifold. This reduces the radiant heat absorbed by the pipe. The advantage of using carbon fiber over the traditionally used cast aluminum is mainly due to thermal conductivity and the ability to keep the interior smooth. The following table summarizes the benefits.

Minimize heat absorption

As the RS3/TTRS accelerates, the turbo generates intense heat as it spools up. As the turbo face is directly connected to our CNC-machined flange, we designed a silicone joint that also acts as a thermal barrier between the carbon pipe and the metal flange. Internally the silicone has a spacer that separates the carbon and metal surfaces. This reduces conductive heat transfer and therefore allows power to remain more consistent as the inlet does not absorb heat as quickly as the stock inlet.

CNC Machined Turbo Flanges

We offer a choice of turbo flanges which are all CNC machined from aircraft grade aluminum and anodized. We will also be adding more flanges for the new hybrid turbos coming to the market.

Currently available flanges:

  • Turbo as standard
  • TTE 700 / 625
  • Technical sheet SRM GTX3582
