AUDI 8V RS3 LHD GEN 1

The 8V RS3 Eventuri system uses our patent-pending carbon fiber housings that provide an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbo pipe. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield, but a unique design that recalls the Venturi effect.

Performance increase: 17-20 HP, 22-25 ft-lbs
V-Box acceleration: 60-130 mph reduced by 0.3 seconds

The Audi 8V RS3 Eventuri intake sets a new benchmark in aftermarket intake design for this platform. It has been developed to achieve two goals: 1) De-restrict the turbo inlet path. 2) Maintain low inlet temperatures. The first goal is achieved by using 88mm internal diameter pipes up to the turbo and using our unique venturi housing to maintain laminar flow. The second goal is achieved by designing a sealed system for the stock cold air feed, ensuring the turbo does not draw hot air from the engine bay. The intake duct draws air from the stock feed and has been maximised in volume to allow maximum flow through the filter. The resulting performance gains and aesthetics are industry leading for the 8V RS3.

Extensive testing has been done on this system both on the dyno and on the road. First the dyno tests were done which showed an impressive gain of around 17 horsepower and 25 foot-pounds of torque. The gain is not just at peak but throughout the entire rpm range. On the road this translates into increased part-throttle and full-throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly towards redline. The tests were run on the same day back to back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency. The car was tested first with the stock intake and the hood closed. We then left the car on the dyno and installed the Eventuri. The car was then used again with the bonnet closed. Several tests were performed with both configurations to obtain a consistent result.

Summary of acceleration results:

  • 60-130 mph with stock aspirated = 12.013 seconds
  • 60-130 mph with Eventuri aspirated = 11.753 seconds
  • 60-124 mph with stock aspirated = 10.271 seconds
  • 100-200 km/h with Eventuri intake = 10.046 seconds

The advantages are due to a combination of reasons:

1) Sealed system keeps IATs low: The RS3's engine bay can absorb heat very quickly, so an open cone filter will cause IATs to rise, resulting in a loss of performance.

2) The venturi housing provides a smooth transition from the filter to the intake pipes, both of which are matched to an internal diameter of 88mm. This helps the turbo to run more efficiently.

3) The entire system is constructed from pure pre-impregnated carbon fibre, which is excellent at insulating from heat.

The Eventuri 8V RS3 intake system is made up of a series of components designed to perform a specific purpose and manufactured to the highest standards. Here are the details for each component and the design ethic behind them:

Each intake system consists of:

  • Carbon fiber venturi filter housing
  • High-resistance urethane cone filters

    • Carbon fiber inlet duct
    • Carbon fiber
    • Carbon fiber connection tube
    • Laser cut stainless steel brackets
    • Silicone joints and reducers

    Intake housing assembly in carbon

The filter housing is comprised of a high flow filter, an aluminum canopy, laser cut brackets and the carbon pod itself. The carbon pods wrap around the reverse mounted filter and gently shape the airflow into the intake tubes. This gentle reduction in cross-sectional area is reminiscent of the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates while maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity stack - below is a diagram showing how our patent pending design compares to a typical intake system. More details can be read on the Technology page.

Carbon Fiber Intake Duct The duct directs ambient air from the trim panel area to the filter housing. It fits inside the OEM duct system and smoothly transitions into the circular shape of the filter housing. To ensure a good seal against engine bay heat, it also has a flexible rubber lip around the opening that presses against the filter housings creating the desired seal but allowing the housing to move with the engine. The duct has been designed to have the maximum internal volume possible within the given engine bay geometry. This ensures that the filter housing is able to draw air with minimal restriction.

Carbon Fiber Intake Pipes Our intake pipes are made to 100% pre-preg carbon fiber. Each tube has an internal diameter of 88mm, while the stock tube is only 77mm in diameter. This enlarged diameter allows the turbo to run with less restriction and also allows larger/hybrid turbos to run even better. The tubes smoothly carry the airflow to the turbo ensuring there are no sharp or sudden bends. The smooth bend geometry ensures that laminar flow is maintained from the filters to the outlets. The combined system ensures that the airflow remains full and constant to the turbo, minimizing the occurrence of turbulence. The following flow simulation shows how smooth and full the flow is inside the inlet tubes before the turbo. There is some circulation in the duct as expected, but once the flow enters the pipe it is smoothed out and allows the turbo to work more efficiently.
